About the Aviation English and Communication Program

The Aviation English and Communication program is designed to help candidates attain proficiency in the English language used for radiotelephony communications and to be able to understand and communicate with air traffic controllers, and other radio users.

 

It is open to all candidates who would like to become more proficient in the English language used for radiotelephony but also targets candidates who do not speak English as a first language. At the end of the course, candidates will be better suited to pass the Transport Canada aviation language proficiency demonstration (ALPD) which is required for candidates to a Canadian pilot licence or Air Traffic Controller licence

Prerequisites

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrate a language

Learning Objectives/Outcomes:

At the completion of this program students will be able to describe and demonstrate and achieve the following learning outcomes:

 

  • Develop proficiency for the English language

  • Establish a greater understanding of Canadian aviation phraseology

  • Develop operational pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and interaction skills

  • Eliminate inconsistencies in pilot-controller communication to increase safety

Program Duration:

Total Program Duration: 8 hours/week total of 6 weeks.

 

Methods of Evaluation:

 

Students’ progress in the program is measured by their successful completion of the courses listed in the program outlines. A minimum of a 70% final grade is required to successfully complete each program.

In-class instruction including seminars, CD production videos, interactive activities, and one-on-one guidance when necessary.
