Admission Requirements

Hold a valid Transport Canada Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane or higher licence.

Hold and maintain a valid Transport Canada Medical Certificate appropriate to the licence held.

Have completed at least 50 hours of cross-country flight as Pilot-in-Command, including at least 10 hours in aeroplanes.

Have at least 25 hours of previously logged qualifying instrument time. Of that previous instrument time, at least 12 hours must be instrument flight time in aeroplanes.

Previous qualifying instrument flight time may include actual instrument flight time and properly logged simulated instrument flight time ("hood time") completed in an aeroplane by means that limit outside visual reference. Approved FTD/simulator time may qualify as instrument ground time, subject to applicable Transport Canada definitions and credit limits.

Hold, or satisfy the requirements to obtain, a valid Multi-Engine Class Rating before the Group 1 Instrument Rating flight test.

Provide the Student's pilot logbook and any supporting training records requested by Canadian Aviation College before enrollment so CAC can verify the previous cross-country, instrument flight, simulated instrument and FTD/simulator experience applicable to this Program.

The 25-hour previous instrument-time requirement is a Canadian Aviation College admission standard for this 35-hour Program and is not a separate Transport Canada minimum. Transport Canada separately requires the Student to satisfy all applicable experience, knowledge and skill requirements for issuance of the Group 1 Instrument Rating.

Canadian Aviation College confirms eligibility after reviewing the Student’s records. A Student who does not meet the admission requirements will not be enrolled in this 35-hour Program until the required previous experience is established. Any prerequisite training offered by CAC is outside this Program and requires separate enrollment documentation.
